Position Overview
- Part Time (2x12s) - day or night shift, scheduled as needed
- Every other weekend and holidays required
- Med/Surg/Tele - 7a-730p or 7p-730a scheduled as needed
- NYS RN Licensure Required
- BLS certification required
- ACLS (AHA or RQI only) required
- NIHSS certification required
- One (1) Year Experience serving in Med/Surg Environment as a Registered Nurse
- The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families
- The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient need, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates the care delivery throughout the patient's episode
- The RN develops specialized skill in the area of patient admitted for medical conditions
- Provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions
- Accountable for patient family education to assist in understanding self care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing
- Expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a Healing Environment
- Applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care
- Assesses patient / family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness (being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do), and analyzing data or information obtained through direct observation/assessment, technology, or health team communication
- Creates a developmentally and age appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the nature and scope of the health problems identified
- In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, sets goals and monitors the patient's progress
- The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or change in condition/reprioritization of needs
- Promotes, advocates for and protects the health, safety and rights of the patient
- Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcome
- Teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with the individual's education, training, and scope of practice
- Understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies
- Motivates the patient/family by teaching them what is needed to continue care/healing at home
- Assesses the patient/family learning styles and structures the sessions to maximize understanding
- Seeks "teachable" moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information
- Asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self care process
- Provides tools and information to assist the patient's family after discharge
- Documents the education provided and the patient/family response to the education
- Systematically evaluates quality and effectiveness of Nursing Practice and uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and care delivery
- Engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas in which professional development would be beneficial
- Takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skill
- Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
- Nursing practice reflects the importance of making a meaningful connection with patient/family
- Seeks to develop a helping, trusting, and caring relationship by being present in the moment of interaction, listening, communicating, engaging, and anticipating the patient/family needs
- Strives to understand what is most important to the patient/family, acknowledging that the patient and family are the central focus of all care and services
- Embraces the importance of creating a Healing Environment as a key element of professional nursing practice
- Demonstrates skill in application of interventions including medication administration
- Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated
- Required tasks involve a potential contact with blood, body fluids, and tissues
