Schedule Details
  • Part Time Day/Night Rotation (2x12s) + EOW, Holidays
  • Candidates must work through January, no guaranteed RTO on the three major holidays
  • Must be available for full shift orientation on a Monday 2x12
Required Qualifications
  • NYS RN Licensure Required
  • BLS, ACLS (AHA or RQI only), NIHSS certifications
  • One (1) Year Experience serving in Med/Surg Environment as a Registered Nurse
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families. The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient need, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates the care delivery throughout the patient's episode. The RN on 3 North develops specialized skill in the area of patient admitted for medical conditions. He/She provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions. The 3 North RN is accountable for patient family education to assist in understanding self care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The 3 North Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a Healing Environment.
Job Functions
  • Applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care
  • Assesses patient/family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness (being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do), and analyzing data or information obtained through direct observation/assessment, technology, or health team communication
  • Creates a developmentally and age appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the nature and scope of the health problems identified
  • In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, sets goals and monitors the patient's progress. The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or change in condition/reprioritization of needs
  • Promotes, advocates for and protects the health, safety and rights of the patient. Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcome
  • Teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with the individual's education, training, and scope of practice. Understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies
  • Motivates the patient/family by teaching them what is needed to continue care/healing at home. Assesses the patient/family learning styles and structures the sessions to maximize understanding
  • Seeks "teachable" moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information. Asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self care process
  • Provides tools and information to assist the patient's family after discharge. Documents the education provided and the patient/family response to the education
  • Systematically evaluates quality and effectiveness of Nursing Practice and uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and care delivery
  • Engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas in which professional development would be beneficial. Takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skill
  • Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Nursing practice reflects the importance of making a meaningful connection with patient/family
  • Seeks to develop a helping, trusting, and caring relationship by being present in the moment of interaction, listening, communicating, engaging, and anticipating the patient/family needs
  • Strives to understand what is most important to the patient/family, acknowledging that the patient and family are the central focus of all care and services
  • Embraces the importance of creating a Healing Environment as a key element of professional nursing practice
  • Demonstrates skill in application of interventions including medication administration
