Description:
Position Overview
- 39 hours per week
- 6am - 7pm and 6pm - 7am: 13-hour day/night rotating shifts
- On call/callback requirements
- Holiday and weekend coverage per unit needs
- Duration: 6-9 months
- 50% day shifts and 50% night shifts
- Days and nights typically not scheduled in the same week
- 16-bed acuity-adaptable Pediatric Cardiac Care Center
- Caring for critically ill pediatric congenital cardiac patients
- Occasionally provides care for adult patients with congenital heart disease requiring medical or post-operative management
- Also cares for PICU boarder patients with a variety of critical care needs
- Advanced Practice Providers serve in a primary covering provider role
- Comfortable managing patients with congenital heart disease, including complex anatomy and physiology
- Work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
- Care for a wide range of high-acuity patients including:
- Pre- and post-operative pediatric cardiac surgical patients
- High-risk single ventricle physiology
- Open chest management
- Arrhythmia management
- Vasopressor support
- External and internal pacemakers
- VA/VV ECMO
- CRRT
- While knowledge of ICU procedural skills is essential, the APP role is not primarily procedural
- Adaptable
- Collaborative
- Thrives in a dynamic critical care setting alongside physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other multidisciplinary team members
- 2 years of experience in Pediatric Cardiac ICU
- Knowledge of complex
- Required completion of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program
- Active New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing
- Current national certification as a Physician Assistant by NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)
- BLS from AHA
- PALS from ABA
- Pediatric Acute Care Physician Assistant certification
- PA experience - 3 Years
- NYS license
- Critical Care experience - 3 Years
